MC Wrestling State Finals Update:
Our three qualifiers, Corey Gamet (125) Josh Rankin (130) and Brock Kuhn (285), preformed flawlessly last Friday in the first day of the finals going a combined 9-0. We were at Ford Field for 12 hours that day and they thrived in that rigorous first day of the state finals competition. There were some tight matches but at no point were any of them down in any of their matches that day. It was an incredible feeling as a coach to watch our boys show up to this big stage and dominate! MC had not had any finalist, much less three, since 2004.
The finals got rolling at 3pm on Saturday with Brock Kuhn being the first match of the session. Brock squared off with the top ranked HWT in the state having an intense battle but in the end coming up a little short losing the match 4-3 and ending his impressive career at MC as a state runner up. Brock was a 3X Cascade Champion, 2X All Stater, a 3 year team captain and he smashed the career win & pin records for our program!
Next up in the finals was Corey Gamet. He squared off with his toughest opponent of the year but handled him in his usual impressive fashion to win his first state at MC and the third state title of his high school career. Corey finished the season as an undefeated State Champion, the first wrestler to do this at our school since 1992!
Our last finalist of the evening was Josh Rankin. He faced a tough opponent from Williamston that he had split matches with this season. Josh wrestled intense and flawlessly decisively winning the match 4-2 and concluding his career as a State Champion! In his four year varsity career at MC Josh was the first ever 4X Cascade Champion, 3X State Qualifier, 2X All Stater and 1X State Champion and additionally was a 3 year team captain and set the career take down record and was second in career wins only to team mate Brock Kuhn.
